V1.0 Patch Notes

Today is the day! Early access is officially over, and the game has been updated to V1.0!

If you’re looking for physical copies, get ‘em here: https://tabletopbookshelf.com/products/bite-the-hand

If you’ve already purchased V0.9 on itch, all you have to do to get the new version is go to My Library > find Bite the Hand > click Download. It should default to the newest version. The character sheet is the same, the 3PP policy and the Mosh conversion guide have been slightly updated.

BTH V.1.0 Patch Notes

The editing process has naturally resulted in partial rewrites of most sentences in the book. While most don’t constitute actual rules changes, the changed wording and altered bits of flavor may make the way you interpret some of the rules slightly different (hopefully in a more clear way). If you were already super familiar with the rules, it’s probably a good idea to re-read them before you play again just to be sure. Meaningful, intentional changes are detailed in the following patch notes.

General

  • The credits have been updated to reflect the additional work done.
  • All art has been updated due to a software update for the dithering program. I couldn’t recreate the old dither on some updates I wanted to make, so I just re-did the dithering pass on all of them for consistency, but I honestly think it’s an improvement.
  • Character connection question 20 is totally different now. If you already started a campaign, don’t feel the need to retcon for this haha.
  • Anything listed in imperial units has been converted to metric for consistency, resulting in some very slight buffs/nerfs due to the need to adjust unusual numbers to nice rounded ones.
  • There’s a little message from me on page 26.
  • PDF ONLY: There’s some hyperlinks for page callouts built into the text now that should make your lives a little easier, and images now have alt text for accessibility. If I missed anything accessibility-wise please reach out, as I can always update the digital version.
  • 3PP TERMS DOCUMENT: Now includes a version of the BTH style guide established during editing to help you be consistent when creating your own 3PP content. It’s not required that you follow it, and there’s no meaningful changes to the legal stuff.
  • MOTHERSHIP CONVERSION GUIDE: I did my best to match the language in this doc to Jordan’s copy editing. Shouldn’t contain any serious changes, just some consistency updates.

Cybernetics

  • Most cybernetics have new bits of technobabble, for a bit of extra flavor and intrigue.
  • To reduce flipping pages back and forth while choosing cybernetics, each of the four categories of cybernetics now have icons associated with them.
    • Corporate: line graph
    • Military: flag
    • Science: gear
    • Spycraft: magnifying glass
  • Emergency Thrusters no longer specify that the roll must be BDY, or even a save. (It probably will be 99% of the time, but this lets it work in edge cases.)
  • Deployable Shields can now be used in conjunction with melee weapons (enjoy your sword and board build).
  • The Repulsor now clarifies that its range is Close.
  • Range Extender is called Signal Amplifier now (effect basically the same but reworded).
  • The language of some of the vision-based cybernetics has been changed for better clarity and consistency, especially when used in conjunction with the Magnifier.

Items

  • There is now a dedicated C4 explosive charge item/weapon for use specifically with the detonator, but if your Warden allows it you can still also use standard grenades (operating under the worldbuilding assumption that almost everything has a tiny computer in it.)
  • EMP grenades are called shock grenades now (effect unchanged).
  • LMGs and HMGs now have [–] in Melee range.
  • Many items have been made a little cheaper or a little more expensive. Again, don’t feel a need to retcon, just say you got a really good/bad deal.

Rules

  • Panic: Bad Connection has been moved up a few.
  • Panic: Heart Attack is worse now.
  • The rules for movement in combat have been clarified from “one range band” to “somewhere Close.”
    • Speed Booster has been adjusted to reflect this.

NPCs

  • SMG range is unchanged at Mid, but NPC stat blocks that had it falsely noted as Close from an earlier build have been corrected.
  • The Soldier/Guard/Officer stat block no longer has a scanner in its inventory. Formatting changed a little so it didn’t fit anymore, and it’s not like every beat cop and footsoldier needs advanced scanners. If you have an NPC detective in your game just give them one.
  • The Thug stat block’s crowbar was falsely listed as 1d5 instead of 1d10, fixed now.

Maybe something else that I forgot about?

  • If you spot a noteworthy difference let me know in the comments here or over on Discord and I’ll update this post.
